My daughter was born in May 2012, just 10 short days after I graduated from nursing school. We had the most amazing birth experience, something that I feel every woman deserves and something I would love to help every woman achieve. I started my doula training at the end of 2012 because of an unrelenting passion to educate women on their options available in childbirth. Also, to allow me to connect with other ladies and share this beautiful journey we are gifted with, as women. I believe that my ability to connect with women, along with my passion for women's health, and desire to be educated on all available options will be of value.
Throughout my education, women's health was of high interest to me as I completed rotations working with high risk pregnant teenagers and young women. I worked with these women before and after their pregnancies, giving education on topics such as health promotion during and after pregnancy, newborn care, and family planning. I wanted to be of the highest level of service possible to these women in such a vulnerable and sensitive time- offering support, and also being an empowering presence on their journey to motherhood. After I became pregnant with my daughter in September of 2011, this became a passion of mine. I aimed to learn everything that I possibly could. Throughout my experiences of being pregnant, I discovered the niche I had in this field and the connection that I felt with this special group of women who could all use extra support. This is where the doula part comes in. I started my training at the end of 2012 to get my feet wet and have been in love with it since. My daughters birth started the butterfly effect that would inspire me to shift my direction.
Besides all things birth related, I love to spend time outside (hiking, sitting on the porch reading, looking at the stars etc), practicing yoga, crafting and baking- I also LOVE to feed people and entertain friends. In the future, I intend to go back to school to become a nurse midwife and dream of owning my own birth center- but we have many years for that. :)
In the meantime, I would love to help guide people to receive the education they need to make the most informed birth decisions to get what they want out of their way of bringing their blessing into the world. I consider it such an honor and feel privileged to be apart of that.
